Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the Office Chief for Highway System Information and Performance, a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the incumbent will manage the Office's project portfolio and lead difficult and complex engineering work related to roadway inventory and safety data systems including the Transportation System Network Replacement (TSNR) project. Develops and deploys project management tools and skills to deliver projects on schedule and within cost and scope. The incumbent will coordinate project and performance activities with other divisions and programs including Information Technology, Transportation Asset Management, Traffic Operations, Safety Programs, Local Assistance, Maintenance, Planning, Programming, and Project Management and with external partners including the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and state and local agencies. Exceptional leadership and communications skills are fundamental to this position.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Position is located in Sacramento, Sacramento County
Work hours will be set between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. While at their base of operation, Incumbent will work in a climate controlled office under artificial light. Incumbent may be required to travel in state, and infrequent travel out of state.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

1. Education and work experience in managing large scale transportation projects.

3. Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills including the ability to convey accurately the Department's business needs and services to a broad audience
4. Knowledge and basic understanding of the operational and data needs of functional areas, including Safety Programs, Traffic Operations, Planning, Pavement Programs, GIS, Transportation Asset Management, Transportation Planning, Design, Construction, and Maintenance.
